About ASAP
The Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland’s (ASAP’s) mission is to end the euthanasia of healthy, social, and treatable cats and dogs in Portland-area shelters through collaboration and outreach. By working together we have reduced euthanasia in our region by 44% in four years! The coalition is comprised of ten organizations : The Alliance for Contraception in Cats and Dogs; Cat Adoption Team; Clackamas County Dog Services; Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon; Humane Society for Southwest Washington; Multnomah County Animal Services; Oregon Humane Society; Portland Veterinary Medical Association; Southwest Washington Veterinary Medical Association; and Washington County Animal Services/Bonnie L. Hayes Small Animal Shelter.
ASAP’s keystone program is Spay & Save, a Portland metro area-wide program that aims to assist low income families and their cats by offering 10,000 annual, affordable spay & neuter surgeries for those who qualify. The program aims to keep struggling families and their pets together and reduce the number of cats and kittens that are coming into our shelters every year—23,574 in 2010 alone. All surgeries are performed by licensed veterinarians and assisted by skilled, caring support teams. The low cost service is made possible by charitable donations.
